Overview

Going against the grain of film's usual role as a form of escapism, the inaugural New Zealand International Fraud Film Festival is a weekend dedicated to the crooked, dishonest aspects of society as told through film.

Films included in this year's festival are (Dis)honesty: The Truth About Lies - a film which investigates lying behaviour; The Captain and The Bookmaker - a movie about the South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje, who took bribes to fix matches; Tickled - the well-known and outrageous doco by local journalist David Farrier who plunged into the fraudulent underbelly of the competitive tickling world; and Chancers: The Great Gangster Film Fraud - a meta-film about making a film through fraud.

Panel discussions will feature the likes of Belinda Moffat - the Chief Executive of the Broadcasting Standards Authority, Hayley Holt - a sportsperson and media commentator and broadcaster Wallace Chapman.
