Playwright and actor, Eli Kent boldly and irreverently goes after Henrik Isben's classic play-in-verse, Peer Gynt. The contemporary twist on the original character and story, Peer Gynt (Recycled), is the Auckland Theatre Company's contribution to this year's Auckland Arts Festival, and it's shaping up to be a raucous theatrical experience traversing the life and times of one of literature's most notorious and charming scoundrels.

After Peer Gynt is banished for seducing a bride on her wedding day, he begins an intrepid journey from Arabia to America. His search for love, fame and fortune leads invariably to adventure, but ultimately, he must return home to confront his past. Promising moments of comedy within the overarching drama, Peer Gynt (Recycled) will be an original, enthralling play, allowing audience members to simultaneously appreciate new work from an up-and-coming New Zealand artist, and pay homage to one of the greats that came before.
