Overview

Eight short films that made up the line-up for last year's Pollywood Film Festival will be on show once again thanks to the generosity of AUT, Colab and The Film Archive.

The purpose of the festival is to provide a platform for grassroots and established Pasifika filmmakers to tell and share their stories within communities both here and abroad.

Covering all bases from drama, comedy, intrigue, human conditioning and pork buns, films on offer include ‘Galu Afi: Waves of Fire’ - a silent performance video work by multi-media visual artist, Shigeyuki Kihara, which explores the ancient Samoan dance form of taualuga; Tatau  - the story of an elderly Samoan man struggling to come to terms with the shame of having an incomplete traditional tattoo and losing his sight; 'Mou Piri: a Rarotongan Love Song' - a short documentary from director Karin Williams tracing the story of 'Mou Piri', the quintessential Rarotongan wedding song, and 'A Porkbun for Charlotte', simply following the quest to give a girl the pork bun of her dreams. Craig Fasi, the creator of Pollywood Film Festival, will be present for a Q&A after the screening.
