For its twentieth season, open air theatre programme Shakespeare in the Park will bring together two famous plays, King Lear and The Tempest. Both of course written by the actor/playwright/respected business man/property owner and wearer of a gold hoop earring, William, more commonly referred to as Shakespeare.

Both plays will be performed at The PumpHouse Amphitheatre located in Takapuna. Shakespeare's five-act tragedy King Lear follows the story of a king who decides to divide his kingdom amongst his three daughters. The daughter who declares the greatest love is deemed to receive the greatest of his riches. Greed, lust, power and cruelty play out alongside a shocking series of deaths including poison and suicide.

The Tempest, which is slightly more lighthearted, is an extraordinary romance set on a remote island and entails a shipwreck, magic, and an almost happy ending.

Although there are alternative dates for bad weather it may pay to bring clothes for all occasions, and maybe an ol' English dictionary (or someone savvy with the Elizabethan era) as Google Translate has yet to add a Shakespeare English option.
