Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Still is an interactive exhibition inviting the public to explore the duality of war, the destruction of lives and the construction of a collective future.

The collaboration between local designers and developers Johann Nortje, Tane Upjohn-Beatson and Joe Dixon will be presented simultaneously in Poitiers, France, Auckland and Christchurch, in an effort to connect people from countries involved in the First World War.

As an interactive memorial, participants are prompted to stand still in front of the main screen while their face is captured and added into the collage of faces from around the globe. The artwork then draws from the growing pool of faces as well as an existing archive of images featuring people photographed at the time of WWI. Alongside the visual element, a WWI inspired soundtrack will change dramatically in response to a person’s movement, fluctuating from silent and intimate to dark, violent and anonymous.

The exhibition is part of the government initiated programme WW100: Remembering WW1 - 100 Years On.
