Overview

If you consider yourself something of a coffee-making maestro then your time to shine is here with the Rocket Home Barista Championships – a competition that aims to find New Zealand’s best home barista.

The challenge is pretty simple; make the best espresso, flat white and a buttered piece of toast and serve it with charm, style and panache to the judges in 10 minutes. If you are crowned the inaugural Rocket Home Barista Champion of New Zealand you’ll walk away with over five grand’s worth of prizes including The Rocket Evoluzione espresso machine and other pieces of coffee paraphernalia.

This a pretty exclusive competition with only 25 will be in the running to be the champion and there is an entry fee ($40), but consider it an investment in your barista skill-set, or in your flatmate's (having a live-in barista is almost as good as being one). Included in your entry fee is a master class on the Rocket Machines, a pack of Atomic Coffee Roasters coffee and a Rocket Home Barista Championship branded IPA souvenir cup and certificate.

Just in case you are wondering, it is a competition for home baristas only amigos. If you brew for a living (work in a café), used to, or you own a café, you are not eligible to enter. You also must be over 16 years of age to enter – you’ve got to be of age (it involves grinding remember).

So if you’ve ever wished for praise for your exquisitely frothed milk or your perfect crema then get your entry in now. Also make a note to rearrange your kitchen bench. You might need to make room for a sparkling toy in a couple of week’s time.
