Overview

Adapted from Patricia Grace's award-winning novel of the same name, Tu is a powerful and moving story of love, redemption, whanau and brotherhood. Set against a backdrop of 1940s New Zealand and the battlefields of Monte Cassino, Tu reveals how war has affected three generations of family.

After years of living in isolation from his family, old uncle Tu is sought out by his niece and nephew, Rimini and Benedict. It's the 1970s and Benedict is readying himself  to leave for Vietnam, to fight in the war. Brother and sister come seeking answers about their father's death all those years ago, forcing Tu to remember and to confront the ghosts of his past.

After a successful season at last year's NZ International Arts Festival, Tu returns for a limited time at Q Theatre. Tu is brought to the stage by celebrated playwright and director Hone Kouka. Kouka's previous theatre productions include The Prophet, Waiora and the multi-award winning I, George Nepia.
