Overview
From the creative people who brought you L'eouf, Chinoiserie has opened up next door and it's just as great. After spending time in China and Taiwan immersing themselves in the street food culture they returned with confidence and ambition to bring a slice of the tradition to Auckland.
Chinoiserie is set out like an alleyway stall with mis-matched interior setting the scene well for their very simple yet delicious menu. Of course, the main part of the menu is the beloved Gua Bao (steamed milk bun) - usually seen teamed with pork and cucumber Chinoiserie offer options such as chicken with a finger licking ginger hoisin sauce, fried squid and a vegetarian alternative with tofu topped with an incredible homemade satay sauce. All options are happily made gluten free by swapping the milk bun for a lettuce wrap. Being very reasonably priced the sides section was not over looked, I would highly the recommend the coconut crusted squid rings and the sure-to-be-a-favorite sticky chicken nibbles. All can be washed down with a well matched selection of beers and wines. If time isn't on your side everything can conveniently be made takeaway.
Service is happy, upbeat and relaxed. Once greeted by the very friendly (and funny) staff you make your order and sit down with indoor and outdoor options. Tables are laden with goodies such as Sriracha sauce and their homemade Gong sauce (which you can buy) a sweet 5 spice sweet reduction that compliments their menu incredibly well.
Chinoiserie has popped up just in the nick of time and is a fantastic addition to our ever-expanding food scene, with there being nowhere quite like it this is sure to be a summer hit.
