Overview
Sandwiches are an easy breezy lunchtime staple, and there’s no excuse to brown-bag it when St. Kev’s newest establishment, Fort Greene, do such a good job.
A popular fixture at the wonderful Street Food Collective, it’s welcome news that Andrea and Liam have found a permanent home on K’Rd to hustle their made-from-scratch delights; everything from the bread to the pickles to the Moroccan ketchup is whipped up in-house.
Replacing Honeytrap – yep, the place with the legendary beef brisket – Fort Greene offers a similarly concise and inventive menu that changes out daily and is sure to develop a cult following of its own.
For breakfast, we sampled an open sandwich featuring Chardonnay sausage and baked bean cassoulet, washed down with an excellent flat white with beans from boutique Wellington-based roastery Peoples Coffee (bonus points – near impossible to find in central Auckland). While the fillings were suitably delectable, the fresh wholemeal bread – baked with a blend of flax, pumpkin, sunflower, poppy and sesame seeds – almost stole the limelight.
Everyone loves a decent sandwich (the best thing since sliced bread, am I right?) and you’re sure to discover a new favourite at this little gem.
