Mamak

Overview

Somewhat hidden but well worth the find, Mamak Malaysian Restaurant in the Chancery is a definite BYO gem in Auckland's CBD. Mamak is super cheap with a decent feed for under 15 bucks, and in the perfect location for that Friday after work shindig.

Malaysian is a fun change from the usual choices of Thai, Japanese and Indian which seem to be the default position these days. Mamak are known for their rotis, which are freshly made and absolutely mouth watering. The seafood laksa is a highlight as well as the soft shell crab. Vegetarians have nothing to worry about at Mamak, plenty of options to satisfy.

Currently working in the CBD myself, it is key having a cheap and tasty food option close by. While the Chancery has perhaps fell into a bit of decline of late, Mamak certainly creates a reason to go back.
