Overview

Wynyard Quarter has welcomed the first eatery to its new hospitality precinct. Williams Eatery offers a simple yet relaxing dining experience that is inspired by food from around the world.

Brothers Charles and Patrick Williams are the brains behind the new family café. After the successful run of Grafton eatery Ceremony the duo was inspired to create an exciting and relaxing new space for others to enjoy, and that's exactly what they've done; the modern café is beautifully crafted both in food and décor.

The menu will leave your tastebuds tingling and your mouth watering. If you're wanting a hearty breakfast opt for the eggs, cooked any way you like on a choice of kumara sourdough or seeded grain, complemented by an array of sides — we loved the crispy bacon and pastrami.

The Breakfast Bowl, made up of homemade muesli, coconut kasu foam, seasonal fruit sorbet and raspberry powder, is the perfect combination of sweet and crunchy and is extremely satisfying. Our favourite has to be their rendition of creamy mushrooms, made with pine buttermilk, porcini crumb, honeycomb, quinoa crisp and topped with pine nut oil, this dish will convert any mushroom hater.

If you're craving something slightly different try the tiramisu brioche with chocolate, white sesame powder, mascarpone sorbet and berries — it's guaranteed to hit that sweet spot. Lunchtime options include grass-fed ribeye steak, eggplant with fried tempeh and a healthy bowl made with shredded courgette, avocado, honeycomb mushroom, poached egg and mirin-cured salmon.

Whether you're flying solo or with a group, Williams Eatery has your back — if you're in a group then there are plenty of sharing options to sink your teeth into. We recommend the platter with cured meats, pickles, an array of cheeses, sourdough and buckwheat flatbread.

The brothers are not only working closely with local New Zealand suppliers to make sure they've got the best sustainable, free-range and organic produce available but also with a variety of talented Auckland-based creatives who have helped bring the interior to life. Drawing inspiration from their favourite Japan, Denmark and New Zealand eateries, they have decked out the modern café with oak furniture from Ben Glass, beautiful glass-blown pendants by Monmouth Studio and handmade ceramics by Fiona Mackay and Hayley Bridgford.

They've got all your coffee needs sorted with Flight Coffee as well as your favourite wines, the space is welcoming and the food even more so and their sustainable practices are certainly admirable. Whether it's a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday morning, Williams Eatery is set to be a new favourite.
