Sydneysiders don't let a little cold or rain stop them from heading to the pub to catch up with mates. If you ask us, the biggest factor that'll make or break a drinking sesh is the food — whether it's a pre-game feast or some cheeky snacks to keep the good vibes going.

From locally sourced produce to Mediterranean-inspired bites and juicy burgers, the menus at these beloved pubs cater to all palates. With the help of Solotel, we've rounded up five Inner West mainstays that offer impressive dishes to pair with your drinks, so your next get-together can continue well into the night.

The Erko is a community favourite pub for good reason — not only does it offer a diverse range of craft beer, cocktails and Aussie and international wines (including a one-litre squealer for just $25), it also boasts an impressive menu of elevated pub classics by former Chiswick chef Ethan Robinson.

The updated menu focuses on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients in pub classics. Dishes include grilled lamb ribs with chimichurri, sides and your pick of sauce or a schnitty crumbed with herbs from the community garden and topped with shaved parmesan and lemon. Vegetarians aren’t forgotten with the ‘Cheeky Pea’ falafel burger and potato gnocchi garnished with a sprinkle of truffle pecorino.

If you live in Sydney, you’ve surely had a late night (or many) at The Bank. With an all-weather garden bar and dining space, along with a refreshed food menu by Head Chef Quan Nguyen (ex-Opera Bar, Chiswick), it’s worth a revisit for a long weekend lunch or arvo session with mates.

Head to the breezy garden to enjoy Mediterranean-inspired plates cooked over a charcoal grill, including charred corn ribs with harissa and Manchego cheese, woodfired prawns, and a hefty one-kilogram T-bone steak or whole flounder with your choice of sides and condiments.

With murals by local artists, a beer garden found right next to a woodfired pizza oven, a large outdoor seating area in the carpark, and an upstairs lounge with a wraparound balcony, Public House Petersham is well-equipped to host any upcoming gatherings you might be planning.

It’s got you covered on the food front, too, with an Italian-inspired menu featuring share plates, woodfired pizzas, pastas and, of course, pub faves such as burgers, schnitzels and steak.

You know it’ll be a big night if you’re headed to The Marly. The Newtown institution has three levels, so you can choose to lounge around or people watch from the balcony upstairs, hit the dance floor on the ground level, or catch a DJ or live band at Tokyo Sing Song downstairs.

Make sure to line your stomach with some bites from Fat Belly Jack’s, which slings US classics including hot dogs, burgers and wings until 9pm during the week and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Beer Garden at The Courthouse Hotel - one of the best pubs in Sydney.

It doesn’t get more Inner West than The Courty. With pool tables, pinball machines and grungy vinyl couches, the humble pub has remained a local favourite for its easygoing, unpretentious vibe and lively beer garden.

Load up on classic pub grub like wedges, nachos, burgers and fish and chips, before washing it down with a schooner as you sit in the tree-lined outdoor courtyard, which remains packed all year-round.
