Overview
As if there wasn't already enough fun to be had on Constance Street, Chur Burger has joined the neighbourhood, swinging their doors wide open underneath the new Tryp Hotel. Warren Turnbull and team have made their way to the Sunshine State, bringing their claim to fame — 'best burgers in Sydney' — with them. State of Origin rivalry aside, only time will tell if us beef-loving Brisbanites will rally behind Chur as heartily as Sydneysiders have as they join steep competition in the Valley's ever-growing burger scene.
The digs at 20 Constance Street are cool and comfortable, with plenty of seating available. Graffiti art and exposed brick emulate Valley cool, and wall-to-wall windows keep the space light and airy. Order at the counter and then slide on in at the window bar or cosy up with a crew in the rounded booths.
Now for the important stuff: the burgs. There is a lot to love about the classic beef and pickles with cheese, tomato jam and Dijon mayonnaise. The high-quality beef means patties are cooked medium rare and are mighty tender. My only beef with the beef was the number of bites into the bun before tasting the sweet, juicy meat.
Don't let that the timeless tastes on offer stop you from taking a risk on the likes of crispy pork belly with chilli caramel, slaw and aioli. Or if meat ain't your thang, check out the spiced chickpea pattie with raw beetroot and honey labne. Whatever you choose, you're sure to love the $10 price tag attached to it. And just so you know, for an extra $5, a side of sweet potato fries with lime and garlic salt won't go astray.
But it ain't just about the burgers at Chur. You can snack away on chicken wings with blue cheese dressing or miso brisket tacos with pickled cucumbers and puffed rice. Or if you're really hungry, fill your tank up from the trio of more substantial mains like jerk chicken and blackened salmon ($24 each).
As if that isn't enough for you to get your mouth around, from 7am daily Chur serve up a Mexican-inspired breakfast menu for a savoury start to your morning. Think corn-bread muffin with avocado butter and tomato jam ($8), beef chimichanga ($12) and, of course, a breakfast burger ($12).
