Overview
There's steak, and then there's bistecca alla Fiorentina. If you're wondering what the latter is, it's just arrived in Brisbane. With all things Tuscan the focus at Newstead's newest addition, the Florentine Italian Grill and Wine Room brings the famous dish our way. It takes up to 45 minutes to cook, is designed for two-to-four people, and is always grilled medium-rare and served with potatoes.
Bistecca alla Fiorentina also uses Chianina beef cuts, with the cattle breed brought to Australia using DNA and now available from one Victorian farmer. If you're keen for a taste, Florentine Italian Grill and Wine Room dishes up multiple options as part of its broader menu. Also on offer are starters like smashed broad bean bruschetta and duck rillette, entrees that include beef tartare with quail yolk and seared scallops with ham, and other mains such as fried gnocchi with mushroom and grilled spatchcock.
Settling into Kyabra Street, the restaurant is the latest venture from Gianni of Gianni's Kitchen (also in Newstead) and Gusto di Gianni (at Portside) fame — and, given its name, tipples are just as much of a drawcard. You'll find plenty of vino lining the walls, or you can peruse the seven-page wine list, which understandably heroes Italian drops.
