Overview

Deep-fried, dripping in oil and not a recognisable vegetable in sight; what's not to like about the classic fare of the USA? American food has enjoyed a popularity surge in Brisbane of late. Whether this is a backlash to the clean eating trend or just a passing fad, you’ll hear no complaints from me.

Tippler's Tap is one fine establishment serving up American-style food with no consideration of your waistline. They're also passionate aficionados of the liquid gold: beer. Eleven beer taps are constantly on rotation and the bar staff are happy to give you a taste test before you make your decision, so take advantage of their expertise and try something new. There is also a range of bottled beers and ciders as well as an extensive wine and spirits list, so nobody is left high and dry.

And now for the food. There's no point trying to 'be good' here, so don't even bother. Sliders, chilli fries, jaffles, buffalo wings, onion rings — the menu is an exercise in greasy indulgence. The chilli with sourdough packs a spicy punch and is the ultimate winter warmer, while the cheesy jaffles will take you back to your childhood in all the right ways. Vegetarian options are also available. Most of the food is well suited for sharing, and the prices are fantastically reasonable. The staff members are lovely and will have you feeling right at home in no time at all.

The location of Tippler’s Tap is a little off the beaten track in Newstead. Despite this, it has a large loyal customer base and seating can be tight on weekends. It’s worth the effort to get there, though, so get a few friends together and head on down. Tip: there's no phone, so if you want to make a booking, send an email via the Tippler’s Tap website.
