Sunny Side Sandwiches
A footpath-stool sandwich bar slinging Brisbane's favourite schnitty sandwich on house-baked shokupan.
Overview
The original Sunny Side opened in Windsor in 2021, born from a trip exploring Melbourne's sandwich scene that left the people behind it convinced Brisbane didn't have anywhere near enough good sandwiches of its own. Baking the shokupan in-house turned out to be the thing that set the shop apart, arriving just as Brisbane's own sandwich boom started to take off — flood damage and a full menu rework along the way didn't slow things down for long.
Paddington was the second shop to open, a compact, footpath-stool set-up with no indoor seating, running from 7am. The format's simple: pull up a stool outside, order at the counter, eat in the sun.

The menu runs tight rather than sprawling — a handful of sandwiches on a choice of shokupan, wholemeal, rye, milk buns or gluten-free, plus rotating monthly specials. The panko-crumbed chicken schnitty is the bestseller, backed by a breakfast sandwich loaded with soft scrambled egg, streaky bacon, caramelised onion and kimchi mayo. Heavier hitters include curry mortadella and 24-hour wagyu pastrami for anyone after something more substantial.
Windsor remains the original, and a third shop has since opened in East Brisbane, running the same tight formula on a rotating cast of specials.
