Usually, the Gold Coast's Bleach* Festival happens once a year. But given that nothing is quite normal of late, this fest isn't waiting 12 months to make a comeback. Last held in November 2020, the beachside celebration of arts and culture will return from Thursday, August 12–Sunday, August 22 — with 72 different performances, 355 artists and 24 events on the lineup.

In other words, you won't be bored — whether you're a Gold Coast local or you're making the trip down the highway to liven up your winter. When you're not checking out big light installations, you'll be tucking into feasts, dancing in parks, listening to live tunes and hanging out at the waterside bar. The program pops up all around town, so it isn't all just right next to the shore, but plenty of the fun on the agenda will have you in sight of a watery view.

As well as a 6am opening ceremony that's all about both traditional and contemporary First Nations connections, other highlights include performances by Sarah Blasko and The Necks, both in the Gold Coast's Botanic Gardens; six new works that celebrate Bleach*'s tenth year, because that's this year; an amusement park ride called The Double Backed Beast; and an interactive club night-meets-cabaret named Glittery Clittery. Or, head to HOTA, Home of the Arts nightly for Fireside, with a different performer playing and chatting each evening.
