Overview

It's been more than a century since the first combination of gin, vermouth rosso and Campari was apparently mixed up in Florence, as dreamed up by Pascal-Olivier de Negroni. Cocktail lovers everywhere have been thankful ever since, and there's even an entire week — Negroni Week, obviously — to celebrate.

In South Brisbane and West End, the bars and eateries of Fish Lane Arts Precinct are marking the occasion in 2022 — in the only appropriate way, of course. From Monday, September 12–Sunday, September 18, the precinct's establishments are devoting the entire week to creative negronis, as well as cocktail-inspired dishes and desserts.

Stop by on whichever day you like and you'll find a Negroni Week special on the menu at Bar Brutus, Billykart West End, Maeve Wine Bar, Hello Please, Julius Pizzeria, Kiki, La Lune, Chu the Phat, Saccharomyces and Southside. Fancy a cherry ripe negroni? Dessert negroni with blood orange sorbet? Oysters with negroni-inspired calamansi? Casserole-style ngroni duck a l'orange? This is the time and place to find them.

There'll be more than 40 different negronis and negroni dishes to try, with other highlights including Campari and mandarin marmalade breakfast martinis, clarified negroni punch, ceviche of kingfish with negroni gel and puffed rice, and plum negronis made with Heiwa shuzo negroni umeshu, gin and Campari.

Also on offer: a two-day negroni block party across Friday, September 16–Saturday, September 17, with free entry; a $79-per-ticket negroni trail on the Saturday, too; and an aperitivo afternoon on Sunday, September 18, where $59 gets you a negroni on arrival, charcuterie, laneway hangs, live tunes and a shindig that'll mimic Rome's Bar San Calisto.
