Overview

Paris Opera Ballet has been cancelled. All ticket holders will be contacted by QPAC and issued a full refund.

We can't all head to France to see one of the most acclaimed ballet companies in the world strut their stuff on the Parisian stage, sadly. If you're in Brisbanite in July 2020, however, you won't have to. Founded in 1669, the Paris Opera Ballet is the globe's oldest national ballet company, and it'll soon be pirouetting across QPAC's Lyric Theatre.

The famed troupe is coming to town as part of QPAC's annual International Series — and, whether you have your own pointe shoes at home or you firmly think ballet isn't your thing, this is the kind of performance that's worth seeing. Actually, the Paris Opera Ballet will be putting on three different shows, so you can get a glimpse of a variety of pieces, check out a classic or watch it in contemporary mode.

On Wednesday, July 1, it's hosting an Opening Gala that'll showcase five of its works — so you can sample its wide-ranging repertoire. Then, from Saturday, July 4–Sunday, July 12, it's Swan Lake time, with Tchaikovsky's masterpiece coming to glorious life. And, wrapping the season up is the thoroughly modern Parisienne Soirée from Thursday, July 16–Sunday, July 19.
