Things are heating up in eastern Victoria this winter with the return of the annual East Gippsland Winter Festival. Supported by Visit Victoria, Regional Arts Victoria and other partners, the three-week fiesta takes place from June 17 to July 10 and features an incredible lineup of events throughout East Gippsland that celebrate the best of the region.
Immersive art installations, rejuvenating nature and wellness activities, hands-on workshops, intimate live gigs, leisurely long lunches and after-dark lantern parades are all on the menu.
Highlights at this year's festival include a sunrise dip at Metung Hot Springs on June 22 in celebration of World Bathing Day (a holiday we can get behind!). Then there's the Lakes Entrance Lantern Festival on June 25 that will bring a spirit of wintry celebration with live music, food trucks, market stalls and a lantern parade.
Meanwhile, in Orbost the beloved Sailors Grave Brewing is hosting the Deep in the Weeds Festival which invites punters to partake in three days of funky beer, live music and food by Meatsmith from July 8–10.
Headlining the suite of gigs taking place throughout the festival will be an intimate evening with Steph Strings. The San Remo-based singer-songwriter will be performing at Lakes Entrance hideaway Eight Acres on Friday, July 1. Make a weekend out of it by booking a Steph Strings & Stay package, which includes two nights in a glamping tent or two-bedroom cottage, as well as tickets to the Friday evening gig where you'll be treated to not just great music but also woodfired pizza, local craft beer, mulled wine, chai lattes, hot chocolate and a spectacular fire performance.
To kick off festivities, Beers, BBQ & Beats will take over Bairnsdale creative hotspot Laneway3875 on Saturday, June 18, with spectacular light projections, live music, local produce prepared over fire by some of the region's best chefs and a pop-up bar serving local brews and wines.
Sounds like the perfect way to fire up your winter? East Gippsland Winter Festival is giving away a wonder-packed escape to the opening weekend of the festival. One lucky Melburnian (and a plus-one) can score a prize pack valued at over $1200, including two nights' accommodation (from Friday, June 17) at The Riversleigh — a short stroll from Laneway3875 — food and drink vouchers to spend on the Friday night, a scenic helicopter ride for two to see Lakes Entrance from high above, and an exclusive two-person spa treatment at Metung Hot Springs before it opens to the public later this year. To be in the running, all you need to do is head to the website and fill in your details.
