A fun, family-run souvlaki grill house bringing the flavours of Greece to Windsor, Kalamaki is a champion of Greek street food — though perhaps not quite the type you're used to scoffing at 2am. Instead, it specialises in a style of souva called kalamaki — it means 'little reed' — where the meat is cubed, marinated in herbs and spices, then cooked on small wooden skewers.

At the cheery black-and-yellow High Street store — younger sibling to the original Kalamaki back in Warragul — you can sample those tender meat cubes either fresh off the grill and still on the skewer, or teamed with classic Greek fillings and stuffed into fresh pita.

All the usual suspects make an appearance here, including chicken, lamb, pork and grilled haloumi, along with sides like a Mediterranean-style slaw and loaded feta fries. Crisp, imported brews including Fix and Mythos prove a patriotic match.

And, if you're thinking that all of that souva action might work a treat alongside something boozier, stay tuned for Kalamaki's incoming cocktail selection. The offering's still a work in progress, though you can expect sips like a Greek Negroni, crafted with Campari, mastic (a Greek liqueur) and muddled strawberries, and a concoction of Greek vermouth, tonic and orange.
