Overview
If you've ever been to Ladro, the longrunning and much-loved Italian eatery in Fitzro, you should have a fair idea of what to expect from the buzzing Greville Street joint. Ladro TAP may have opened second but it's not trailing behind in the taste stakes. Rather, it's dishing up the same rustic Italian dishes and woodfired pizzas as its predecessor.
From Friday to Sunday, the venue is open for brunch and lunch, and serves up inventive Italian-inflected plates like breakfast pizza, Nutella-filled Italian doughnuts with vanilla ice cream and avocado, Persian goats feta and wood oven-roasted tomatoes on grilled ciabatta. After dark, the menu shifts into small and large share plates ranging from polenta chips with truffle oil and fried calamari to squid ink linguini and pan-roasted barramundi with watercress pesto. Pizza is a focal point and range from simple margherita to decadent options like porcini and gorgonzola and garlic prawn, fennel and capers. An off-chops potato, rosemary and truffle oil pizza gets the tick of approval from us, too. There are gluten-free options available, too.
There's also a strong focus on sustainability — local produce is sourced where possible and organic waste from the kitchen is recycled and can be purchased for $2 a bag. On Mondays, it offers BYO with the $5 corkage fee donated to a local charity.
