Te Papa Up Late: Black Lives Matter | Patua Te Kaikiri
This conversation on culture promises an electrifying night of spoken word and music.
Overview
This week, Te Papa is co-presenting a timely event in partnership with Third Culture Minds, a non-profit dedicated to unlocking potential of ethnic youth in Aotearoa and improving their mental wellbeing outcomes.
This conversation on culture arrives as the anti-racism movement Black Lives Matter takes flight due to the death of American George Floyd at the hands of a police officer — as well as, at the local level, the ongoing fight to end the systemic mistreatment of Māori by law enforcement.
The event promises an electrifying night of spoken word and music, including DJs and VJs. The evening will led by Te Kupu (Dean Hapeta) and Guled Mire, co-founder of Third Culture Minds and organiser of the Wellington #BLM vigils.
Hear poetry by Emalani Case, Tere Harrison, Ping-Ann Addo, Liya Lupala, Pala Molisa, Lynda Chanwai-Earle, Poneke Youngsolwara and Tony Hopkins, music by Upper Hutt Posse, King Kapisi aka Mr Majesty (Bill Urale), Raiza Biza, TAPZ and more.
