The Legacy: A Celebration of the Old Tote
NIDA celebrates a formative Sydney theatre company.
Overview
Sydney's cultural growth into a globally recognised theatrical and dramatic hotspot can in many ways be attributed to the work of the legendary (and now defunct) Old Tote Theatre Company - this year celebrating 50 years since its establishment. In honour of this milestone, NIDA have put together an awesome new exhibition: The Legacy: A Celebration of the Old Tote.
The retrospective gallery takes visitors on a tour through the formative years of the theatre company, from its birth at the Tin Shed theatre up until it became the official theatre company of New South Wales, and led into the Sydney Theatre Company. Check out posters and playbills from the theatre's early years or get up-close and personal with some of the company's most in/famous productions with original photographs, letters and footage as well as costumes worn by such Old Tote alumni as Robyn Nevin and Ron Haddrick in Macbeth and Trelawney of the Wells.
It opens on 9 March with a day filled with dramatic readings, panel discussions on the enduring legacy of the Old Tote and even the odd celebratory drink.
The opening is free, but you need to book.
