Pikelet + Richard In Your Mind

Beyond accolades, placing these bands side by side just makes sense. Both are pop experimenters with a keen sense of adventure in their music, and both have fierce (in the Tyra Banks/ANTM sense) reputations for their live shows.

Overview

What do Pikelet and Richard In Your Mind have in common with Keith Urban and John Mayer? I'll give you a clue: it's not luscious hair (John Mayer's hair is gross). What's that? Did you say, 'co-headlining tour'? Congratulations! A prize for you good sir and/or madam. Earlier this year, Keith Urban and John Mayer headlined a show together, and now Pikelet and Richard In Your Mind are following suit. There's no word yet on whether the Pikelet/RIYM double-header is directly inspired by the musical love-duelling of the aforementioned arena gods, but no matter, it will be equally delicious.

Both bands have this year released second albums to critical acclaim. The psychedelic eclecticism of RIYM's My Volcano earned the band five stars in Triple J Magazine. Meanwhile, Pikelet's Stem received album of the week on countless community radio stations and glowing reviews from the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age and Mess and Noise.

Beyond accolades, placing these bands side by side just makes sense. Both are pop experimenters with a keen sense of adventure in their music, and both have fierce* reputations for their live shows. If you're not currently a fan, watching this show will leave you, at the very least, with a healthy respect for both.

*In the Tyra Banks/America's Next Top Model sense.
