First love is bittersweet. Ask some people about theirs and they'll smile sweetly to themselves, ask other's and they'll flinch, turn away and grow silent. Talk to somebody going through it and you'll be overwhelmed by the intensity of how magical and dreadful first love can be. Having your heart broken for the first time hurts more than you knew it was possible to hurt before.

And it is perhaps for all these reasons that short film Apricot recently got voted the best narrative on Vimeo in the community choice awards. The film, written and directed by Sydney-based Australian filmmaker Ben Briand, explores missed connections, chance and fragmented memories in a heartbreaking story about first love and what it's like to have grown up a little and to look back and remember it.
