Overview

Head underground to find Jude's, a new basement bar slinging retro cocktails, playing classic tunes, and serving tasty snacks to keep you fueled for a night out. Located in the basement of Penny's Hotel at 15 Bayswater Road, Potts Point, Jude's adds to Sydney's reinvigorated late-night scene.

The space has been designed with reference to New York's infamous Studio 54, with curved mirror walls, suede curtains, velvet lounge chairs, an illuminated Art Deco mirror, and, of course, disco balls. A curated playlist takes you through some of history's most popular tracks and will have you dancing late into the evening.

Cocktails are a serious affair at Jude's, with Matthew Cridge responsible for the impressive list, led by the Hey Jude. The signature drink is a blend of vodka, lychee, lemon and chilli, like a mash-up of a lychee martini and a spicy margarita. "Every cocktail on the list draws inspiration from the past, reimagining classic flavours and familiar serves through a modern lens while retaining a sense of nostalgia."

British mixologist Danny Renwick brings the cocktails to life each night, including the theatrical Vesper Blush, a modern take on the James Bond Martini. "Liquid nitrogen provides a touch of refined drama behind the bar, but it also serves a purpose chilling the glass rapidly to showcase the premium ingredients of Tanqueray gin, Grey Goose vodka and the delicate blush tones of Lillet Rosé," Cridge says.

Snack on complimentary soy-glazed pepitas before sampling small plates, perfectly suited for a few rounds of drinks, think truffle fries, baked camembert with hot honey, cheese plates and charcuterie boards. "Great cocktails, music and an escape from the fast-paced outside world is what we all need a little bit of right now," says Jude's licensee Tayla Holborow.
