Overview
Monster burgers and homemade Italian pastries aren't the type of things you'd usually find at an RSL Club, however they're on the menu in Rooty Hill's local establishment. Made By The Hill has been part of the Sherbrooke Street mainstay since mid-2017, complete with Chur Burger and Pasticceria Papa on the premises.
Made By The Hill is a blend of bar, cafe, burger joint and lounge area, complete with room for entertainment — with the open-plan space bringing a city-style hangout to Western Sydney. Think Scandinavian-influenced interiors as designed by TomMarkHenry, aka the folks behind The Darlo Country Club, 1888 Certified and Bondi's Best.
Food-wise, expect Pasticceria Papa's baked ricotta cheesecake, cannoli and pistachio biscuits, plus a cafe menu slinging seven types of pizzas, paninis and baguettes, and meat and cheese boards. Chur Burger's addition to the fold brings their usual meat-and-bread behemoths, chilli salt-laden chips and creamy milkshakes — and yes, Chur's Mac Daddy with grilled beef, a mac 'n' cheese pattie, hot smoky barbecue sauce, jalapeno mayo and fresh jalapenos is on offer.
For summer 2018, Made By The Hill is also turning every Thursday night into $2 taco night, with two fillings — crumbed fish fillet and succulent pulled pork — available to be topped lettuce, tomato, red onion, coriander salsa, cheese sour cream and guacamole. Grab one, both or more from 5pm each week, but arriving early is recommended, as they're only available until sold out.
The bar also serves up plenty of cocktails, with the current summer lineup including lychee lemon spritzes (with Sauv Blanc, limoncello, lychee liqueur, lemon juice and agave syrup), the Deep Sea Espresso (with Kraken spiced rum, fresh espresso and agave syrup), and the Southern Spice (with Southern Comfort, Aperol, blood orange syrup, cinnamon and egg white). A selection of red, white, sparkling and rose helps round out the drinks options, as well as small batch and boutique brews.
