It's absolutely no secret we're obsessed with food. But while we're often chasing down some of the finest dining experiences to share with you, we're still suckers for a big plate of old-fashioned wings washed down with cold beer. There’s a lot to love about Websters — the laidback Newtown local is the perfect place for a few sunset pints, and its whiskey list is enough to make a Scotsman weep into his Bruichladdich. But the thing that keeps us coming back to this iconic venue is the wings. Here, they’re done in a classic American buffalo style: thickly coated in a mix of Frank’s hot sauce, butter and a touch of honey, then served with blue cheese sauce and celery sticks. Throw in a decent selection of craft beer or treat yourself to one of the classic cocktails or in-house specialities.

Match your platter of wings and sides such as maple glazed pumpkin, kimchi slaw and chips with chicken salt. Wash it all down with a cocktail designed by Rollo Anderson and Liam Doherty-Penzer, formerly of legendary cocktail bar The Rook.

The name of this favoured establishment says it all. Located behind an unassuming door in Darlinghurst, Wings and Tins does just that: chicken wings and tinnies. The most impressive display of chicken wing styles in Sydney alongside 100-plus beer cans and growing. Along with their delicious house-made buffalo wings, this establishment is infamous for their ‘doom juice’ hot sauce. Punters can play wing roulette, hiding one lethal doom juice wing alongside the traditional buffalo sauce serving.

A German beer tavern may not be your first choice for authentic buffalo wings, but don’t knock it ’till you’ve tried it.
