Overview
At the end of a long, arduous day, is there any meal more satisfying than a big hunk of steak, charred on the outside, rosy in the middle, swimming in a pool of its own delicious juices?
For those nights when you can't be bothered shopping, cooking, cleaning or fiddling around with a meat thermometer, it's good to know that somewhere in Sydney a steak night is happening. Whether it's Monday, Tuesday, Friday or Sunday, someone, somewhere, is tucking into a rump, downing a craft ale and getting change from a twenty.
If this sounds like where you'd like to be in life, we've teamed up with the folks from American Express to round up seven top steak nights happening in the city. What's more, you can even tap your American Express® Card to cover the bill so you can up that point balance while you slowly descend into a beef coma. So, tuck in your napkin and sharpen the serrated knives, here's where to find A-grade steaks every day of the week.
Got yourself in another dining situation and need some guidance? Whatever it is, we know a place. Visit The Shortlist and we'll sort you out.

If you don’t want to start the week with a sink full of dirty dishes, a blaring smoke alarm and a sad, burnt offering, might we suggest dinner at the pub? While The Rocks is usually an expensive area for eating, you’ll find sweet reprieve at The Glenmore Hotel on Mondays, when this historic pub brings its 250-gram Black Angus sirloin down to an irresistibly lean $13.80. It’s a steal for the price, with the succulent slab lording over a pile of chips, garden salad and home-style gravy. Pair it with a pint of Four Pines pale ale, and either curl up in the plush drawing room or take your plate up to the rooftop terrace, for sweeping views across the harbour.

Tempted to pull out the barbecue and get the fire going this Tuesday? We thought not. Take the night off and head down to Newtown Hotel for a taste of its beautifully branded smoky sweet sirloins. Usually on the menu for $22, the 250-gram fillet gets carved back to a mere $15 on Tuesday. This includes steak’s best mates, fries and salad, as well as a delightful dribble of red wine gravy. And the best part is that there’s no washing up required, which is always a win. While there’s no obligation to get a drink, you’ll want to anyway, with a strong selection of local legends on tap, from Newtown’s Young Henrys to Marrickville’s Batch Brewing Company.

Sure, you could braise some beef cheeks, sous-vide a salmon or whisk up a sabayon, but sometimes sinking your teeth into a big, juicy steak prepared by someone else is even better. Head to the Botany View Hotel on Wednesdays for access to its ridiculously good value two-for-one dinners. While the discount technically applies to any item on the menu, the 300-gram grain-fed rump steak is a tough beast to beat when it comes down to a mere $11 a person. The only real question though is chips and salad or mash and veggies? We’ll leave that one up to you. Remember, this deal only works for two, so bring a date, a mate or a colleague, anyone you would be happy to kick back and chew the fat with.

Ten dollar steaks are pretty rare these days, but there’s still at least one place that flips them up, and that’s the Lord Gladstone Hotel on a Thursday night. Trust us, this isn’t just a flash in the pan promotion. In exchange for a tenner, you’ll get a well-laden plate, which includes a 300-gram chargrilled rump steak, garden salad, chips and a pot of creamy mushroom sauce or spicy chipotle mayo. At these prices, you couldn’t even cook it yourself for cheaper. Plus, every steak also comes with a side of live music, with DJs hitting the decks every Thursday night and the occasional band appearance.

For a steak that’s a cut above the rest, head to the Dove & Olive in Surry Hills. On any night of the week, you can get a premium 200-gram 150-day grain-fed Black Angus rump steak for just $16. Come on Saturday lunchtime and that price heads further south to just $12.50. Along with the usual suspects (see: chips, salad, mash) you can also get a colourful side of roasted heirloom carrots. Wash it down with one of the many microbrews on tap, with staff recommending the Riverside Brewing Co milk stout and the biscuity Balmain Brewing Co pilsener as great steak accompaniments.

As meat-lovers should already know, the Tocky serve a stack of steaks, from the 250-gram scotch fillet ($32) all the way up to the impressive Flintstone-sized 600-gram ribeye on the bone ($68). On Sunday however, the steaks take a back seat to the famed Sunday roast ($24), which is considered by many to be the best in the inner west. The Sunday roast comes with all the trimmings — from golden crunchy spuds to baby carrots and a Yorkie pud — and drenched in country-style gravy. Don’t stop there. There’s also a sticky date pudding and a chocolate and macadamia banana split to top it all off.
