Overview
Sydney's dessert scene lands a new player, as CUSS, a frozen custard shop, opens its flagship store on King Street, Newtown. Reimagining what frozen desserts can be, CUSS offers a product that is thicker and creamier than your standard ice cream.
Founder Adem Isik of Alemré Hospitality spent years perfecting the recipe for his frozen custard, which is made with a higher egg yolk content and less air, creating the signature texture. "We spent years getting this right — the recipe, the equipment, the mix-ins. Every single detail has been obsessed over. That's just how we do things at CUSS," says Isik.
The frozen custard is available in three flavours: original, chocolate and a vegan version with a coconut base. A rotating selection of mix-ins, including house-made bubblegum sauce, marshmallow sauce, and chocolate chip cookie dough, lets you create your own flavour combination.
"Newtown is the perfect first home for CUSS. We want to be part of this community, not just open a store in it. We want CUSS to be something that everybody has heard of and wants to try. Eventually, everyone who visits Sydney will have CUSS on their list," says Isik.
To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a complimentary scoop.
