Sweet Belem Barangaroo
The Barangaroo store will introduce exciting new additions to the bakery's offering including a chorizo bread and a chicken pie.
Overview
Beloved Portugese bakery, Sweet Belém, has opened a second outpost in Sydney, this time bringing its popular Portugese custard tarts and pastries to the heart of the harbourside at The Streets of Barangaroo precinct. The new store adds to the original location in Petersham, which always attracts a crowd of regulars lining up for a taste of the traditional Portugese sweets.
"Sweet Belém is one of those rare brands that has amassed a genuinely loyal community on craft and passion alone. Their arrival at Barangaroo speaks to the kind of precinct we are building, one that brings together quality and tradition that gives people a real reason to visit. We couldn't be more excited to welcome them and introduce Sweet Belém to Barangaroo," says Monique de Cseuz, director of retail and place at Lendlease.

The brand was founded by João De Almeida and taken over by chef Jose Silva in 2012. The family-owned pastry boutique showcases traditional and modernised Portuguese pastries. At the heart of the offering is the irresistible pastel de nata, a laminated pastry shell filled with a perfectly sweet egg-custard filling.
The Barangaroo store will introduce exciting new additions to the bakery's offering. Along with the mandatory pastel de nata, grab a bola de Berlim (a Portugese egg doughnut) and a vanilla slice, as well as savoury pastries such as an egg and bacon danish, a chorizo and beef pie, chorizo bread, and a chicken pie.

"We had been looking to expand the business for some time, so when the Barangaroo location came up we jumped on it. We want the new store to feel very much like an extension of Petersham; nothing will change except the audience, and a few exciting menu additions. Being able to tap into the corporates on weekdays and visitors on weekends — it feels like the right step for us. We're incredibly excited to bring Sweet Belém to Barangaroo," says Silva.
