Green Square Is Getting a Futuristic Residential Development with Its Own Food-Filled Laneway

Come September, Green Square will be home to 20-storey, $575-million new residential development and cultural hub. Dubbed Infinity by Crown Group, the precinct will launch with a dining precinct, a luxury apartment building, a boutique hotel and a multi-purpose convention centre — all set within a striking looped design by the world-renowned Koichi Takada Architects.

The two-level, 20-shop food precinct will run along Ebsworth Street (off Bourke Street) and includes a laneway filled with Asian eateries, plus the second instalment of Tramsheds restaurant Butcher and the Farmer. The expanded outpost will have European-style marketplace vibes, all-day dining and an aperitivo bar with lots of spritzes.

Also joining the laneway is Makoto Japanese sashimi and bento restaurant, Social Society by Gabriel Coffee Roasters and Bashan, serving handmade Chinese-style noodles in interiors designed by Sydney designer Tom Mark Henry (Bistecca, Dead Ringer).

For groceries, a nearby Woolworths will be joined by an expanded Miracle Asian supermarket and liquor store, with its own interiors designed by The Uncarved Block (The Galleries). A medical centre, hairdresser and dry cleaner will round out the precinct's offering.

Above the dining hub will be 326 apartments and 90 boutique hotel rooms. Residents and guests will have access to some serious amenities, too, including a rooftop pool and garden, a sky lounge with city views, a spa and gym — not to mention the music room with a baby grand piano and even a private cinema.

Then there's the Infinity Convention Centre, which will also boast interiors by Koichi Takada Architects and includes a classroom, 450-person cocktail space, a huge sit-down dinner or wedding space and an auditorium.

Infinity by Crown Group is part of a broader $13 billion redevelopment of Green Square, with wider works including a new train station and aquatic centre. It's all in addition to the futuristic-looking Green Square Library, which opened last year.

The Crown Group's new projects don't stop with Green Square, either. It's also opening a massive five-building residential development — complete with its own Japanese dining precinct — in Waterloo in 2021, too.
