Overview

Love Isabelle designed a living room for its jewellery, Lè Baus does menswear at a vinyl listening bar, As fashion retail embraces evocative domestic settings over sleek shopfronts, SIR the label joins in with the opening of its third Sydney store this May – an intimate dressing room at The Strand.

Muted with dark mosaic tiles and metallic shelves, the newest store is a departure from SIR's previous lush and light-filled fitouts. A sculptural island held up by warm sienna glass blocks sits in the centre. Browse the label's tailored garments and other well-constructed designs under floating runway lights, and then try them on in a fitting room lined with fur.

Designed by Pete Kennon of Studio Kennon, the architect behind Melbourne's Joey Scandizzo and the upcoming Ritz Carlton Gold Coast. "I have always admired SIR's sincere playful energy. It is clear that [co-founders] Nikki and Sophie are two forces, action takers, creatively reckless, and they operate with courageous confidence," Pete says. "Confidence is attractive, confidence is contagious."

He centred the brief around "mirroring the construction of [SIR's] garments", which translated into the room's serious foundations and quality craftsmanship. Playful details – a vinyl player slot in the counter, a red acrylic curtain – are folded in.
