Overview

If stargazing isn't the world's oldest pastime, then it'd have to be right up there. At the very least, it's an ace way to spend a winter evening in the great outdoors, away from the bright artificial lights and hustle and bustle of Sydney's daily grind.

On Friday, August 17, you'll be able to do have your own starry escape when Centennial Park hosts its annual astronomy session. Arrive at 5.30pm and spend the evening staring at the stars and discovering the science and stories behind them. An astronomer from Western Sydney University will be on-hand to point out all the good stuff as you wander around the park and, when you're ready to wind down, you can take a seat by the campfire and listen to traditional Aboriginal stories about the night sky.
