A Saturday hub of fresh bread, fresh flowers and freshly washed pooches, the Carriageworks Farmers Market takes things next level. Acclaimed Australian chef and brains behind Kitchen By Mike Mike McEnearney, is responsibly for curating the markets, pulling in the best growers and producers from around the country.

McEnearney knows a thing or two about creating a lauded, must-visit food location. One of Australia's top chefs, he's earned his stripes working at big gun restaurants; before opening his wildly popular Rosebery eatery Kitchen By Mike, he'd already worked at the likes of Neil Perry's Rockpool, London's Michelin-starred Pied a Terre and Sir Terence Conran's Mezzo.

"I want to put Carriageworks Farmers Market on the world stage, promoting NSW produce and with a goal of creating an internationally-acclaimed food and arts precinct in Sydney's Redfern," says McEnearney. "I am passionate about produce and have always supported and promoted the local and smaller producers in my work. We're aspiring to grow the Carriageworks Farmers Markets to the same international scale and acclaim as London's Borough Markets."

These days, the weekly market is a Sydney institution, and the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning stocking up for the week ahead. Start with a ceramic mug of coffee from Single O, stop for a sea urchin crumpet from the Fish Butchery pop-up, catch demos from some of Sydney's top chefs, pick out some fresh blooms from Jomina Flowers and try something sweet from Crumpets by Merna or Gumnut Chocolates.

Carriageworks Farmers Market is held weekly on Saturdays from 8am until 1pm at Carriageworks.
