Construction of the Human Heart – Apocalypse Theatre Company
Ross Mueller's play confronts the realities of loss and love.
Overview
Two actors are situated in the middle of a room that becomes the intimate stage for Ross Mueller's Construction of the Human Heart. Performed at the TAP Gallery in the Upstairs Theatre and presented by the independent Apocalypse Theatre Company, the play focuses entirely on the words of the characters.
Centred around two playwrights named Him and Her, Construction of the Human Heart examines loss and grief, and how these two people use words to shield themselves from these feelings. The play glimpses into their psyches and looks at the meaning behind what they say, creating a dark and surreal comedy.
Director Dino Dimitriadis's goal when conceiving his staging of the play was to be able to properly compensate actors Michael Cullen and Cat Martin, playing Him and Her respectively. From there, the crowdfunding campaign for Construction of the Human Heart was born. Using Pozible, they reached their funding goal on March 6.
