Landless Bodies

Overview

See Morocco and Australia bridge borders of culture and geography, when the two nations are pulled together for evocative exhibition Landless Bodies, running at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (CPAC) from October 6 to November 11.

Exploring aspects of the female identity unchained from geographical constraints, the project is a collaboration between the CPAC and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Canberra.

The exhibition showcases powerful works by six Moroccan and Arab-Australian artists, with many of the international talents making their Aussie debut. Artists include Batoul S'himi, whose intricately-carved gas canisters speak to the explosive pressures felt by modern women the world over, and acclaimed artist Safaa Erruas, who references the idea of silent wounds through her stark white designs pierced with needles.

Homegrown names contributing to the exhibition include award-winning Sydney photomedia artist Cherine Fahd, Canberra's Fatima Killeen with the latest of her found object installations, and founder of feminist campaign #IAmMyOwnGuardian Ms Saffaa, whose tile installation features prints in LGBTQI+ colours.
