Overview

Marrickville is once again gearing up for a full day of music and festivities. As the council's flagship event, Marrickville Festival is a day to get together, enjoy the sunshine, and celebrate among the diverse crowd and the collaboration of cultures.

After crowds numbering 30,000 last year, 2012 promises to be just as vibrant and engrossing. There will be over a hundred stalls to peruse, and with the arts, crafts, food, and music on offer, it'll be buzzing.

A standout feature this year is The Break. The competition invites young bands to perform for the festivalgoers in a bid to win their hearts, win prizes, and take to the mainstage at the Newtown Festival on November 11.

Or do you feel like getting psyched, getting married, and going home single? Jenevieve Chang has a set of low-commitment nuptials lined up for you with Pop Up Bride, a performance piece that puts our changing notions of marriage under the microscope.

So whether you're a local, an aspiring band, a group of friends, or a single stall stalker, get amongst it and enjoy this annual festival embodying what Marrickville is all about: creativity, diversity, and community.
