Overview

There's a craze sweeping the nation, it's taking off like a wildfire, and it's got people hitting the courts in droves — and for once, it's not something straight off of TikTok. No, it's the great game of Pickleball. Curious? Cautious? Short of a hobby that's summer-appropriate? This game of champions is making a home for itself all January long at South Eveleigh's Innovation Plaza.

If pickleball is just a buzzword or a reputation to you, it's as straightforward as games can be. Two players, two rackets, a plastic ball and a hard court — you can master the rest easily. With a mix of long rallies between rivals and frenetic strikes among frenemies, a pickleball master is a player who can control their decision-making as much as the ball.

It's not backyard cricket either; pickleball goes all the way from casual weekend games to Australian masters competitions and nationally ranked players. Who knows, you could be Pickleball's next superstar.

Innovation Plaza is welcoming rookies and experienced players alike. For the former, weekly instructor-led sessions for up to four players will cost you $10 per player and 45 minutes of free time. The courts will be open for free-play sessions outside the lesson times, free of charge.

The courts will be open from 7.30am to 7.30pm daily until Sunday, February 1. Bookings are recommended for lessons as spots are limited. Free-play sessions are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
