Overview
The wait is over to check out Spectrum's very first festival, Spectrum Now, curated by Richard Roxburgh and the team from the Sydney Morning Herald's stalwart arts lift-out. First stop? Spectrum Playground, the free outdoor hub of this new celebration, making its home for ten days and nights over in the Domain.
The Nosh Pit (ha!) boasts cuisine from some of Sydney's best, including Mary's Burgers, Hoy Pinoy, Daniel San, LP's Quality Meats and what can be only described as pure gelato genius as the guys from Messina take Sydneysiders back to a more simple time with the Messina Milk Bar. Along with the great bites, the Playground will keep you entertained with pop-up performances set in cars, shipping containers turned into art galleries, a special project by No Lights No Lycra that you can only experience solo and music by a guy (Charles Pates) who makes his living making mix tapes.
Powering the festival is a central stage with some excellent bands performing for free, including Battleships, Spookyland, Cabins, Sampology, Ngaiire and All Our Exes Live in Texas. Nearby, Golden Age Cinema has gone outdoors, with a Hollywood Nights program of classics paired with Nighthawk Diner meals. So grab your friends, give yourself an early mark and go play.
