Dig out your finest lilac-coloured threads — and your raspberry beret, too — and get ready to party like it's 1999. The man and music icon that was Prince may have left this life like a cloud of purple rain in 2016; however, now that the doves have cried, it's time to embrace the knowledge that he'll always live on through his music and movies.

That isn't the only reason that Golden Age Cinema and Bar is hosting Strobe, its latest season of music movies in conjunction with Groovescooter. But it's a welcome and glorious focus, with half the flicks on the lineup featuring the artist both currently known and formerly known as Prince. If you haven't seen Purple Rain or haven't caught it on a big screen, this is your chance to remedy that ASAP.

Let's go crazy thanking Prince for a funky cinema time in Tim Burton's OG Batman, too, plus Graffiti Bridge, Under the Cherry Moon and concert film Sign O' the Times. Handily, all of Strobe's Prince films screen from Wednesday, June 7–Sunday, June 11.

Elsewhere on the program, which kicks off on Friday, May 19, CAN and Me gets its Australian premiere, as does Lee Fields: Faithful Man. Also in the same category: Ronnies, which is all about British tenor saxophonist Ronnie Scott and his famed London jazz club.

Plus, Head starring The Monkees celebrates its 55th anniversary — and Wild Style, the first hip hop motion picture, turns 40.
