Taronga Presents Harbour View Cinema
Taronga Zoo is bringing back its very own pop-up openair cinema for a four-day run, pairing classic movies with harbour views.
Overview
Even if you've been to Taronga Zoo countless times, there's nothing standard about spending time with adorable animals, then watching a classic movie with a stunning harbour view. Accordingly, it's no wonder that the famous Sydney spot launched a film-loving addition in 2023 — or that Harbour View Cinema is returning for 2024, too.
Once more, Taronga's concert lawns will welcome the temporary big screen (which comes with 4000 zoo residents as an extra soundscape). The cinema is hosting four sessions between Thursday, October 3—Sunday, October 6, 2024. Kicking off the program: none other than Frozen, because no one is ever going to let this animated hit go.
As you spend a night at the zoo, Night at the Museum will also play. For more animal-themed antics, Finding Nemo is on the list as well. Plus, if you're keen on a dose of the bard Baz Luhrmann (Elvis)-style, Romeo + Juliet gets a spin.
Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, and can show up with their own snacks. The zoo is fully licensed, however, so you aren't able to BYO booze or any drinks in glass containers.
If you're keen to just rock up without packing a basket, there'll be hot bites, and also popcorn, ice creams and other sweet treats. And, the onsite bar will be doing beer, wine, sparkling and cocktails, plus mocktails.
Your ticket does indeed include zoo access, starting at 2pm, with doors to the cinema area opening at 6pm. Films start between 6.45–7.30pm, depending on the session.
Levelled-up options include scoring a VIP chair, and food and drink delivered to it — or that prime seat and an ice cream. Whichever you pick, because Taronga is not-for-profit, your cash goes into helping the spot save wildlife.
