Overview

“Lecture” must be one of dullest words ever. It’s worse than words like “turgid” or “ullage”, which, though they also sound like giant pendulums moving in slow motion, don’t make you think of falling asleep on your desk at uni or getting reprimanded for drawing Crayola dinosaurs on your bedroom walls.

The word “performance lecture”, however, sounds very interesting indeed. In 2012, Serial Space will present a rolling series of these unique orations to explore the relationship between the structure and the guts of a lecture, how the performer assumes authority and what the audience takes away from it.

First off the bat will be Nick Key’s Becoming Otherwise Occupied, going down in Martin Place where him and his mates were occupied by a bottle of whisky only a few months earlier. Art collective Soda Jerk's The Carousel is next in line, with other topics ranging from capitalism and the ghosts of cinema to giant earthworms, Facebook robots and the Garden of Eden.

Keep a close eye on the line-up, because if you miss one due to a hangover, they won’t be posted online for you to download later and deface with highlighters.
