The West Ball 3 — POSTPONED
Celebrate southwest Sydney's underground ballroom scene at the Casula Powerhouse or at a live stream party at The Bearded Tit.
Overview
Update Monday, January 24: The West Ball 3 has been postponed due to the latest COVID-19 outbreak. A new date in mid-2022 is set to be announced.
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is yet again being taken over for a night of music, dance, performance, fashion and modelling. Now in its third iteration, The West Ball is a movement that looks to celebrate the underground ballroom dance scene born out of queer and trans communities in New York in the 70s and has found a home and a passionate community in southwest Sydney for the past five years. Curated by Jamaica Moana and Father Xander Silky, the ball brings together LGBTQIA+ performers of colour for a night of show-stopping entertainment that traces Australian ballroom back to its roots in Liverpool.
If you'd like to attend in-person, tickets are available for the live performance at the Casula Powerhouse and are $25 for general admission or $15 for members of the ballroom community and people of colour. There are also free passes available for BIPOC trans women — the ballroom movement was born from trans women of colour in New York. Other options available include a free live stream party that will be taking place at Redfern's The Bearded Tit on the night of the ball, and a free online live stream you can tune in from at home.
