It was all quiet on the Southern Messina front, until now. Everyone's favourite salted caramel crack-masters, Messina, are extending their cold, creamy love to the Shire with a brand new store opening in October. Messina will be available at the gargantuan new $475 million Westfield Miranda, the very first time the beloved iced confection crew has gone near a food court type of vibe.

The seventh chapter in the Messina tale, the new store will join Phase One of the Westfield Miranda development opening October 16, all part of a huge fresh food market within the centre featuring a bunch of fellow Sydney eateries like Din Tai Fung and Mejico. Miranda's gelato hub joins Sydney's flagship Darlinghurst and subsequent Surry Hills, Bondi, Parramatta and The Star casino spinoffs, alongside Fitzroy's Melbourne venture.

"As a teenager I spent many summers surfing in Cronulla so we’re so excited to be opening a new outlet in an area which holds so much nostalgia," said founder (and owner of bragging rights to That Job We All Wanted in Year Three) Declan Lee. "The redevelopment of Westfield Miranda offers us the ideal real estate as it is centred within the catchment area for residents in the local suburbs of Kogarah and Blakehurst and all the way to the beach suburbs like Cronulla. It really is the epicenter of the Sutherland Shire."

In celebration of the opening, the team will be developing a limited edition flavour to pay tribute to the local area. "The creative concept is still under wraps but it will be synonymous with the laidback lifestyle of the Shire," says Lee.

Messina isn't the only big Sydney name joining the Westfield food market lineup. Confirmed for the indoor/alfresco dining space are Sushi Bay, Din Tai Fung, Luxe, Kazbah, Mejico, Oliver Brown, Kelly's Bar and Grill, Charm Kitchen, Georgie Porgie and The Italian Kitchen Miranda, with six additional restaurants opening on the rooftop in 2015. The fresh food market will also feature market-inspired stalls by food providores such as Pane Vinno Proscuitteria and a state-of-the art demonstration kitchen with live cooking demonstrations. Looks like foodie-type Shire folk have plenty to look forward to.

Gelato Messina will open at Miranda Westfield at the end of 2014.
