Overview

You know when a restaurant first begins as a retailer that there's bound to be some impressive dishes showcasing its main food group. This is the case with the GPO's Cheese and Wine Room, which is all about cheese. Its selection includes cheese boards, which you can either make yourself or go with the venue's selections — although, with over 100 cheeses to choose from, it might be wise to leave it up to the experts. Other dishes include fondue infused with truffle, four cheese mac 'n' cheese, fondue burger boards (think fondue poured over a juicy patty), and cheese and wine flights.

In 1999 the GPO was home to solely the underground artisan cheese room on the lower floor of the building and expanded to include the restaurant in 2005. But with the expansion, it hasn't forgotten about its roots. The retail and cellar remain a defining aspect of this underground gem: an in-house sommelier and cheesemonger, along with a growing supply of wines and spirits, accompany some of the highest quality cheeses in the city.
