Overview

Things are quickly heating up at Sydney's dynamic new food and drink precinct, as more and more hospitality gems open their doors within the former railway sheds of South Eveleigh. Mirvac's much-hyped redevelopment of the buildings along Locomotive Street has already welcomed a suite of new arrivals since opening in mid-2021, with even more still to come.

The development has seen the heritage spaces of what was once Sydney's industrial heartland all carefully transformed, forming both a technology and innovation hub and a vibrant destination for wining and dining. When it comes to food, you'll find RaRa Chan is the latest from the RaRa crew, and the likes of Eat FuhFishbowl, Bekya, Romeo's Food Hall IGA and Steve Costi's Famous Fish.

Some bigger name chefs have also taken up residency in the precinct. Matt Whiley (Scout) and Maurice Terzini's (Icebergs Dining Room & BarCiccia Bella) groundbreaking new sustainability-focused bar Re opened its doors in April, with Kylie Kwong and her Cantonese-Australian eatery Lucky Kwong following suit the next month. Still to come: The Grounds is set to expand its suite of venues with a luxe new event space.

Outside of the food and beverage offerings, there's a skate park and playground, ample community green space and an array of public art. Wander through the precinct and you'll stumble on an immense pavilion made from discarded railway stairs, a hand-built treehouse, an LED cloud with an infectious smile and occasional pop-up art from 107 Projects.
