Balancing Point
A contemporary work where dance, art, music and fashion collide.
Overview
Sink your teeth into Balancing Point, the rich new dance work from Footnote New Zealand Dance.
Performed by an energetic cast of five dancers, Balancing Point combines the works of some of New Zealand's top choreographers, musicians, artists and designers in this striking double bill.
Zahra Killeen-Chance brings Elliptical Fictions to Footnote's end of year work. This is a first time collab with her father, legendary New Zealand artist Richard Killeen, and Wellington composer Emi Pogoni. Interlaced with hypnotic dance and elements of martial arts, Elliptical Fictions is driven by the idea of opposition; exploring the continual shifts of body and mind through the capable and magnetic Footnote dancers.
For the second half of Balancing Point Australian and honorary Kiwi choreographers, Eliza Sanders and James O'Hara have united to produce an ode to returning home. Complemented by Nadia Reid's poignant melodies and costuming by ethical New Zealand fashion house Kowtow, Sanders and O'Hara's piece speaks to the comforts of home.
You don't want to miss this sophisticated mash up of New Zealand greats.
Balancing Point premieres at Te Whaea: National Dance and Drama Centre 16, 17 and 18 August. Tickets are on sale via footnote.org.nz.
