Overview

Leave all your cares at home as you enter the infamously cool Hannah's Laneway this Saturday for the fifth Dia de los Muertos celebrations. A Mexican tradition, Dia de los Muertos is a time when families come together to celebrate love and life through food, drink and music. The Hannah's Laneway crew (led by Golding's Free Dive) will transform this hidden alleyway into a street fiesta, having joined forces to offer the capital's best selection of flavours, each morsel more vibrant than the one before.

All those who dance down Hannah's Laneway may find themselves lucky enough to score a limited release La Calavera Catrina from Garage Project. A compact beer featuring one of the most recognisable Day of the Dead images, this stormy little brew offers crisp, perfumed notes of rosewater and watermelon that quickly roll into a tangy habanero chilli — a perfect rollercoaster to sip while you party.

A street shindig becomes a fiesta whenever Carlos Navae is around — Wellington's answer to Santana. Singer, songwriter and perpetual hip swayer, Carlos is sure to take you a smooth, rhythmic Latino journey as you sample only the finest of the Laneway's offerings.

If you need to catch your breath, Shepherd restaurant is the place to be. The brainchild of Ti Kouka and Golding's Free Dive owners, Shepherd offers a luscious package of sustainability, quality and comfort for those in the know. On Saturday, sit on a high stool and have a tamale, or come back after the fiesta and enjoy the Viva Mexico takeover – it should be wild.
